In response to the Meltdown and Spectre attacks, we are working with our vendors (AWS and Aptible) to mitigate all risks and perform necessary kernel updates. Note that these updates are principally precautionary as we use dedicated instances for all servers handling sensitive information, eliminating the risk of cross-VM attacks. Where we do use a shared tenancy environment for less sensitive data, we are also auditing and rotating secrets as an additional precautionary measure.
While the maintenance window is 4 hours due to our work with our vendors, we expect only 30-90 seconds of downtime during this period.
